Nashville home sales up more than 30% over last year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — More evidence Nashville’s housing market is heating up as we head into the summer months.

Monday, News 2’s Erica Francis took a trip to Davidson County’s hottest neighborhood, Inglewood. There one home went under contract in just three days, selling 20% above the listing price.

Robbie Drimmer of Compass Real Estate was able to get Tim Jones and his family nearly $100,000 over the original set price, with 130 showings and 32 offers no contingencies.

“Nashville has that attraction of still having a great community of art culture progressive people but also the ability to have some room to grow a family,” Jones said.

Jeff Checko with Ashton Real Estate Group of RE/MAX Advantage said those factors and prices are drawing people in.

“You say ‘wow were really going up in value.’ But, if you look at it against other mid-size and big cities, then we still have a ways to go to be considered a really expensive place to live.” Checko added, “With how much we have going for us, I expect it to continue especially in the urban core.”

Nashville home sales are up 31% over last year according to the latest RE/MAX National Housing Report.

Additional findings for Greater Nashville include:

  • The average Nashville home sells in just 15 days — nearly 50% faster than one year ago
  • Home sale prices are up nearly 15% over last year
  • The current median home sale price is $361,250

NES providing assistance to customers struggling to pay power bills

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – Nashville Electric Service announced millions of dollars in additional bill assistance for customers impacted by the pandemic.

During these challenging times, many customers have fallen behind on their power bill and NES wants to help them catch up.

The utility stopped disconnections for nonpayment in March, in addition to waiving late fees and credit card fees. Now that those disconnections are resuming, NES is offering ways to get assistance.

“The Tennessee Valley Authority has given NES a rate reduction credit of $16 million, and we want to give every dollar back to our customers who need it most,” said Sylvia Smith, vice president of customer services for NES, in a news release. “We want customers to know that even if you’re behind, you’re not alone. We are here to help and are teaming up with some of the area’s most respected nonprofits to help us get this funding to customers.”

Breakdown of assistance:

  • $6 million in funding, distributed through NeedLink (customers need to apply)
    • Up to $650 per eligible customer for past due and installment plan balances
  • $10 million in COVID-19 relief that will show up as a credit on customer bills beginning in November and lasting for 12 months

Aside from the $16 million in funding, NES had previously partnered with TVA this summer for the Community Cares Fund, offering $700,000 in assistance through NeedLink, as well as Metro CARES Fund that is offering $10 million to customers impacted by the pandemic. To inform customers of these options and the other nonprofit agencies NES is partnering with to offer assistance, the utility launched a website.

NeedLink is taking applications for the assistance online from 8 a.m. on Mondays through (at least) noon on Thursdays and has streamlined the process to minimize the wait time for approval. Those 75 or older or who have no way to apply online can call 615-269-6835.

“NES is grateful for all of the organizations partnering with us to administer millions of dollars of aid to our customers. Those include TVA, NeedLink, Metro CARES, Metro Action Commission, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and others,” said Smith.

Customers can contact NES Customer Relations at 615-736-6900 for assistance with disconnections, account payments, and credit arrangements. For in-person service, customers may visit the NES lobby at 1214 Church St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Only 25 customers at a time are allowed inside the customer service lobby to meet COVID-19 safety/social distancing protocols. Customers may also handle in-person transactions at the Enbright Credit Union locations located at 2340 Jackson Downs Blvd. in Donelson and 270 Indian Lake Blvd. in Hendersonville.

Remembering Anna Sneed

Anna Sneed PhotoAnna Sneed, who was an employee of the credit union for many years, passed away on September 3, 2020. Anna began working at Electric Service Credit Union, now Enbright Credit Union, in 1962. Prior to coming to the credit union, Anna worked for Nashville Electric Service where she manually copied meter books from the past year’s books to the new year’s books. Because the credit union was small, Anna handled a variety of credit union duties. She made new loans, opened new memberships, handled bookkeeping and personnel. In 1968, Anna left the credit union to raise her two sons, but returned to work at Electric Service Credit Union in 1992. “It felt like coming home to family,” said Anna, whose career lasted through six credit union managers.

Anna retired from the credit union in January 2013. The Community Board Room at the Indian Lake Branch was named in her honor, because she has taught us so much about bringing people together with kindness. She will long be remembered by her credit union family as a generous and gracious person, who made everyone feel welcome.

Said Ron Smith, President and CEO of Enbright, “Anna was a gem. She truly embodied the best of customer service, and she helped the credit union in ways large and small. She made the world a better place.”
